Deb + Christin: pre-wedding portrait shoot brisbane

As the saying goes, every cloud has a silver lining.  This was certainly the case when Deb & Christin met during the Brisbane Floods of January 2011.  Having come down from Isisford to Brisbane, Christin’s visit was unexpectedly extended due to being stuck in Brisbane because of the floods.  As fate would have it,  it was during this time he met Deb.  They pretty much hit it off straight away and found out quickly they have a lot in common, including sharing the same profession as Police Officers!  With Christin being a country boy, and with Deb being a Kiwi (well, you can’t really drive more than 15 minutes from any city in New Zealand and you feel like you’re in the country!) I thought it would be appropriate to the do their pre-wedding portrait somewhere with a rural and peaceful feel.  I think it worked out perfectly!  Deb and Christin will be getting married in September at Albert River Wines.  I can’t wait!

Africa

Today I had the pleasure of visiting a Nick Brandt Exhibition in Brisbane.  Nick Brandt is an amazingly talented photographer, and has also set up the charity Big Life Foundation to help protect animals from poaching.  Africa has always been close to my heart, and I travelled extensively through this vast amazing continent in 2002.    After visiting the exhibition, I was inspired to go through my old slides from my African travels (which I can’t believe are now 10 years old!).  This photograph of a lone Cheetah has always been one of my personal favourites.

baby Ewan – 5 days new

A couple of posts back I featured Karen’s pregnancy shoot.  Two weeks after the shoot, Karen gave birth to a gorgeous little boy.  Congratulations Karen & Matt!! I had the honour of photographing Ewan while he was a fresh 5 days old!  It’s moments like these I treasure, as it’s an amazing feeling to have documented such wonderful occasions in peoples lives.  I have now photographed Matt and Karen’s wedding, pregnancy, and now their gorgeous little newborn.  I love my job!!  These are some of my favourites from the shoot and I particularly get the warm and fuzzies from the last few photos of Matt and Karen adoringly gazing down at Ewan.  They were so focused on him and caught up in the moment of simply enjoying him, that they didn’t even notice I was still snapping away .  Those early days with a newborn, particularly a first child, are so special.  I remember my husband and I would look at our daughter, not quite believing, but whispering to ourselves ”we made her”.

Selena & Kamil Marcoola Wedding

It was 2 years ago today, my good friends Selena and Kamil were married at Surfair Marcoola on the Sunshine Coast.  It is a rare and lovely opportunity to be able to photograph and document such a close friend’s wedding.  It was an extremely wet March, and their wedding day was no exception.  We had torrential rain that came down all day.  This did not dampen anyone’s spirits though, and Selena and Kamil braved the rain and we were still able to do some beach shots.  There was a mad dash down to the beach to achieve this but I think it was worth it in the end :)  These guys sure do know how to put on a party -  it was one of the most fun weddings I’ve ever been to (and photographed).  And whoever said rain on your wedding day is good luck was right – Selena and Kamil are expecting their first baby in September and couldn’t be happier.  Congratulations and Happy Anniversary to you both xx

Karen – 39 weeks pregnant and simply stunning

We were cutting it fine doing this maternity shoot so late into Karen’s pregnancy, but she seemed so relaxed, calm and comfortable that it’s easy to forget she will be having a baby .. any day now!  I was really excited to photograph Matt and Karen again, as I photographed their wedding in 2010 (when I was actually 38 weeks pregnant myself!).  Pregnancy is such an empowering experience for a woman.  I am always in awe at what our bodies are capable of  – growing and nurturing a new little life.  Karen seems to take all of this in her stride and is looking fabulous and ready to take on motherhood.  The amazing journey is just beginning for this little family and I can’t wait to meet their little bundle of joy.  Best of luck Matt and Karen xx

She looks fantastic, what great natural shots you have captured Bec, I really like the one with the tree of life resting on her bump :)
